Hippy Paste natural deodorant: Review

Since becoming concerned about my palm oil consumption, personal hygeine products have been some of the things that have been the most difficult to replace with palm oil free alternatives.

Deodorant is a great example. Let's face it, nobody wants to go without deodorant. But finding one that isn't full of nasties has been quite a task.

Luckily, I discovered Earth Conscious not long after launching this website. At the time, they sold a whole range of ethical items but they have since streamlined to focus on their amazing natural deodorant.

Hippy Paste is a real revelation in terms of deodorant. You are probably wondering whether it's a roll-on or an aerosol. Well actually, it's neither.

Hippy paste comes in a little silver pot and you apply it with your fingertips. The consistency is rather like a thick cream and you only need to apply a small amount each day.

The way it works is to use all natural ingredients to eliminate body odour. It isn't an anti-perspirant, it merely allows you to sweat as you should but it preventsany associated scent.

So, what does it contain? Well it depends on what scent you buy. I was sent a pot of the lavender fragrance to review, but I have to admit I've been using these deodorants for while now so I've also tried the citrus and the mint scents.

The base for the deodorant is coconut oil. It also contains arrowroot, shea butter, sodium bicarbonate, beeswax and natural oils depending on which scent you buy.

But perhaps the most important element is what this deodorant doesn't contain. There are no toxins, aluminium or parabens. And of course there is no palm oil or palm oil derivatives.

Whatever we put on our skin seeps into our body. This is one of the reasons why I make my own moisturiser from natural ingredients rather than using a commercial one containing chemicals. Deodorant that contains nasties can be equally harmful.

There is also the obvious issue of the harm caused to the environment by other deodorants. And the very real possibility that they have been tested on animals. Of course, Hippy Paste is never tested on animals and will never contain environmentally harmful ingredients.

I have to admit that in my quest to find a less harmful alternative, I've tried some natural deodorants before that weren't particularly effective.

Hippy Paste on the other hand works perfectly. It has an understated scent of its own so it doesn't just mask the odour. I have no idea how all these natural ingredients combine to be so effective, but applying it in the morning does prevent odours for the entire day.

Hippy paste is very easy to apply. It is also easier to store and carry around than traditional deodorants. And one application per day really does eliminate underarm odour.

If you are looking for a deodorant that is free from palm oil, palm oil derivatives, chemicals and other nasties but is 100 per cent effective, I would highly recommend Hippy Paste.

Please note that I was sent a pot of Hippy Paste for the purpose of an honest review. However, I had been using this for some time anyway so I have tested several fragrances and was recommending it to friends and family long before I was asked to produce a review for the website.
