How it all began

As Shop Palm Oil Free is starting to gain momentum, I thought I’d provide an insight into what prompted me to launch the website.

Having read various articles in relation to the ubiquitous use of palm oil in every day items, I decided to try to cut back on my own use of it. It sounded easy. There are lots of manufacturers producing palm oil free products, a bit of simple research on the internet will demonstrate this.

However as a working mother of two young children, there was no way I could travel to specialist shops to buy palm oil free products. Finding the few items on supermarket shelves that were palm oil free quickly became a chore. Standing in the aisle with two lively toddlers reading labels just wasn't practical.

So I turned to the internet. Whilst I was able to find palm oil free products with relative ease, finding each individually soon became tedious. I was convinced that there must be a definitive list somewhere off all companies that don't use plam oil. But as it turned out, I was wrong.

And here's the thing, I would imagine that a majority of the population are in the same position as me. Not everyone is even aware of palm oil, let alone the problems it causes. And as we discover the issues, many of us turn to the internet to find out what we can do to help.

You can shop on line for organic, vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, dairy free and manny other product types but there was no single place to shop palm oil free.

It crossed my mind that somebody should do something about that. Then I realised that I am somebody and if I don't do it, then who will? So I decided to address the issue myself.

I have developed a website that only hosts products that are totally free from both palm oil free and palm oil derivatives. I do not include companies that use sustainable palm oil as this has its own issues.

Through this website, you can click on links that will take you directly to palm oil free suppliers. In the future I hope to develop the site further to make shopping palm oil free even easier. I would also like to use it as a platform to educate people on both the palm oil issue and other problems that we can influence as consumers.

At the time of writing, the choice on this website is limited although the brands themselves are excellent. However, I am working hard to identify other palm oil Free manufacturer’s who wish to be listed on the site. My long term aim is to provide as much choice to consumers as possible.

I am aware that in many cases, people following Shop Palm Oil Free via social media are the converted who are already trying to limit their palm oil consumption.

My goal is to make palm oil Free shopping mainstream. Slowly, the world is waking up to the problems caused by the palm oil industry. My vision is for Shop Palm Oil Free to be and easy and accessible way for people to cut down their palm oil consumption should they wish to do so.
