I was sent a bar of Chaaboo soap free of charge for the purpose of an honest review.
Whilst I'm always pleased to discover new palm oil free products, I'm particularly delighted when they are made by local companies. In 2012 in the heart of Herefordshire - just a short distance from where I live - Chaaboo tea soap was born. Inspired by the Hay Festival, Siri decided to start her own business cold-pressing soap made from a beautiful blend of oils, all infused with tea.
Siri decided to send me a bar of her beautiful Chai Tea Soap to review. When it arrived, it was beautifully packaged in a minimalist packet, with the soap itself wrapped in a striking red tissue paper. Through the tissue paper, I could already smell the gentle scent of the spices.
The thing I love about Chaaboo soap is that its natural ingredients make it perfect for use on sensitive skin - even children's skin. This Chai Tea soap is made using black tea. Its fragrances are cardamon, black peppercorns, ginger and cinnamon. It also has a woody hint to it, giving an overall refreshing smell - perfect for energising in the shower in the morning. As well as these lovely aromas, it also contains olive, coconut and rice bran oils and shea butter. This means that instead of drying the skin like many mainstream soaps, it actually moisturises it.
I had intended jut to keep the soap to myself to review it, but as soon as my four year old found it in the bathroom, she insisted on using it too. She just loved the smell of it and couldn't resist using it to wash her hands, and then again when she was in the shower. And I have to admit, I don't really blame her because it is absolutely lovely.
Interestingly, I often hear that people struggle to find palm oil free soaps that feel as effective as a shower gel or bar of soap containing palm oil. This is because palm oil derivatives are usually used as foaming agents, creating the bubbles that we associate with getting clean. I found that Chaaboo Chai Tea soap created easily enough bubbles to make me feel that it was cleaning effectively.
As it was so gentle and moisturising, I even tried using Chaaboo Chai Tea soap to shave my legs with. This worked really well, because not only was it effective, but it moisturised my legs at the same time. I didn't even need to apply moisturiser afterwards, which is really unusual as I do have quite dry skin.
The soap has lasted well, we've been using it for a few weeks now. It has held its form well, and still smells just as divine as when I first removed it from the packaging. I will definitely buy Chaaboo Chai Tea soap again, and would particularly recommend it to anybody with dry or sensitive skin.
