Jake's Boost - Review

When I was asked to review Jake's Boost, I have to admit I wasn't entirely sure what it was. I knew it was palm oil free, natural and good for you, but I didn't know much more than that. So the products that arrived were a real treat.

Jake's Boost make nut butters and snack pots. Each snack pot contains a little pot of nut butter and some treats to eat it with. But the fab thing about the treats is that they are both incredibly healthy and really tasty. And what's more, they're ethically produced with no nasties and they donate 5% of their profits to charities fighting food poverty in the UK.

Cocoa Boost & Orange Spoons Snack Pot

These snack pots were a real revelation to me. The orange pieces are literally freeze dried, sliced orange. The oranges are sliced straight through the middle in a way I've never seen before. I've also never tried freeze-dried orange, but I can honestly say it's one of the nicest things I've eaten. It's like a light, citrus crisp and I could happily eat it all day.

The only thing with freeze-dried orange is that on its own, it really wouldn't be filling enough to make a worthwhile snack. So the idea of serving it with a little pot of nut butter to dip it in is absolutely inspired. My husband and I sat down and ate these pots as a snack in the afternoon. We felt full enough to not want anything else to keep us going until dinner time.

Super Boost & Apple Spoons Snack Pot

I've tried dried apple in the past and I have to admit I quite like the taste. The texture though isn't so great, it's a bit chewy. But freeze dried apple is totally different to dried apple. The process of freeze-drying takes out all the moisture, so what you're left with is a crunchy apple crisp.

As with the orange, the apple crisps wouldn't be filling enough on their own. But when combined with the nut butter to dip them, in the taste and texture are perfect. They are also substantial enough to serve as a satisfying snack.

The Verdict

As I mentioned above, my husband and I tucked into these one afternoon. At the time, my eldest daughter was at school and the younger one was asleep. I have to admit to feeling a little bit guilty about this because Jake's Boost snack pots are literally the perfect snack for children.

I can just imagine my eldest coming home from school and tucking into a snack pot of Jake's boost. It would take the edge off her hunger but wouldn't spoil her tea. It's also a snack that I would be happy to give the children, both from an ethical and a health point of view.

Jake's boost is an unusual product that I will definitely buy again in the future and would highly recommend as an ethical, healthy snack.
