Tracklements Review

I suppose I should start by explaining that I am a fan of condiments. This may seem like an odd thing to say, but it’s a fact. Jam, pickle, relish, mustard, chutney, sauce – I love it all. But not all condiments were created equal.

About Tracklements

Tracklements make condiments the way they should be made. They produce over 60 varieties ranging from jam to mustard to relish to marmalade and many more things besides. And yet every batch of every condiment is handmade just the way you’d make it at home. Tracklements know where all their ingredients come from and they work closely with the producers. That includes both the British farmers and the spice growers worldwide.

The company even works with local school children to show them how food is produced. The children help to produce Tracklements English Crabapple Jelly, with a percentage of profits from the product being donated to both the school and a charity of their choice. Tracklements are also engaged in a project to help save the UK’s bees. And better still, all their produce is made ethically and is free from both palm oil and palm oil derivatives.

Tracklements Sticky Fig Relish

We tried a jar of the Tracklements Sticky Fig Relish. To make it, figs are soaked in spiced vinegar before being cooked in dark sugar. The result is a fabulously rich, sticky relish that retains the texture and taste of the figs.

This relish goes perfectly with cheese. The Tracklements website suggests a soft cheese but we ate it with a strong cheddar and it was perfect. This was my husband’s favourite of the two products we tried. Both of my children also liked it, it’s a perfect replacement for sweet pickle or sauce in sandwiches or with meals.

Tracklements Fresh Chilli Jam

The Tracklements Fresh Chilli Jam is probably the best relish I’ve ever tasted, and I’ve tasted a lot. It’s sweet and sticky as all good jams should be, but it also has a spicy kick. I don’t find it too spicy though and even my two year old rather enjoyed it when I put some in her cheese sandwich. So it’s worth trying even if you don’t like things too spicy.

The Chilli Jam is made from red chillies cooked up with raw cane sugar and various other fabulous natural flavours. It has won numerous awards and even Delia Smith recommends it in a quote on the Tracklements website. I must say Delia has particularly good taste, it’s just fabulous.

Tracklements – the verdict

Now we’ve discovered Tracklements, we will continue to purchase them in the future. The only decision for me is whether to buy these ones for Christmas or try some others from their range. As well as buying them for us, I will probably put some in Christmas hampers for family as well.

Please note, we were sent two jars of Tracklements to try for the purpose of this review. All views, opinions and new found favourite relishes are my own.
